It has been AGES since I last posted, seems like a long time, during which I have struggled with making successful artworks, struggled with motivation, struggled with procrastination, just…..struggled!
This week, after an online chat with a gum printing friend, I decided to try a process called the Warsaw Process, which in theory allows you to print a gum print with a full tonal range, in one single layer of pigment, just by adding a pinch of something called Diatomaceous Earth to the pigment/gum Arabic/Dichromate mix.
I made one on Monday which was OK, but decided to try again by adjusting the negative to add contrast then reprinting it.
Wow! What a difference, and yes I think this proves it is possible to make a print with a single layer of pigment.
I cant say I am out of the woods, but at least this success gives me hope, and a reason to move forward with my fingers very much crossed!
