New process - and a big change!
What do you think of this one then? I followed a course on this process earlier this year and this is the first one I have been happy to show to people. The background is made with acrylic paints, with different layers and densities creating the effect you see. I prepare an image mostly of limited subject matter and lots of negative space. The acrylics are coated witha solution which then allows me to print the image on top using my own printer. It is sealed then with a matt

New Process Alert!
There is always someone pushing boundaries in the Alternative photography world, and here is a new process called a Ferroblend. Initially using a cyanotype solution to coat and expose the negative, the difference is that the image is then developed using a solution that introduces Iron Salts into the image and results in the two tone effect seen here. The effect can be varied in a few ways and if you have a look at my gallery you will see several more examples. I love the pro

Another successful gum print
I dont know what happened to the colour balance on this as the mount looks really wierd, but I love the way the autumn leaves have played out in the sunshine.

Blitz of new posts start here
A After trying out various processes with varying success it was back to the WSA Annual Exhibition at Weston Park. Another fabulous show with some very talented artists. I sold one, which is the subject of my next post, and here is one I created for the event. I struggle with tricolour gum prints sometimes, but this one just about got there and I am pleased with it, taken using a slow shotter speed and some intentional camera movement.

Can't be too disappointed
I entered three pieces into the RBSA Print Prize Exhibition recently. Unfortunately none were selected and although I was disappointed the rejection informed me that they have picked 92 pieces out of over 650 entries!! So rejected I may be, but in very good company. I look forward to seeing thre exhibition in about a months time I believe. This was one of my [pieces that I had hopes for. It is a monochrome Gum print of an image taken inside the living room of a postwar late 1

Seasonal Gloom
Every artist I have spoken to is struggling with getting back into a groove after the holiday season. January has been so wet and grey too it hardly inspires creativity. My workspace is at the bottom of the garden, about 9 degrees until I put the heating on, and when it is cold outside the water supply dries up. All hardly conducive to moving forwards. I am poised and ready to have another try at Polymer Photogravures. I have purchased all I need to reinstate the B&W darkroom

Back to Cyanotypes!
In a rare moment of creativity recently I mixed up some Cyanotype chemicals and made a couple. This one is from an image I took a few winters ago and captures the brightness of a sunny, snowy walk. I printed it again and toned this one with Tea. It definitely feels and looks different, and conjures up a different atmosphere. You decide which you prefer!

Late to the party
I have two pieces in the RBSA Friends exhibition at the moment. One was the Polperro Gum Print in a previous post, the other is this one, View From The Bridge, Ironbridge. It is a gum print from an image taken using a soft focus filter, making the most of the light shining on the properties. The exhibition is only on until early February if you can make it.

A few updates in one blog!
The Weston Park exhibition is now behind us. It was a fabulous exhibition of some quality artwork. A few sales were made, including I am pleased to say, my Gum Print of a Morning Stroll in Venice. I hope the new owner is very happy with their purchase, and I would like to thank them for their support of artists such as myself. Onward now to the RBSA Friends Exhibition, and I am delighted that two of my pieces have been accepted for that show, which starts in January for aroun
